This recipe is from Delia's Vegetarian Collection, Delia's Complete How to Cook.
This is unashamedly rich and luscious.
Firstly, coffee and walnuts have a great affinity; secondly, so do coffee and creaminess; and thirdly, because the cake is soaked in coffee syrup, it's also meltingly moist.

Hello, Can Delia's Austrian Coffee Cake be frozen? Many thanks.
Answered by Lindsey: Hello This cake can be frozen with the icing. However! If making it for a really special occasion, I would choose to freeze the sponges and ice the cake after defrosting. I would freeze leftover slices of freshly made and filled coffee and walnut cake. Kind regards Lindsey
I would like to make the Austrian Coffee Cake recipe as a loaf cake - can you advise the baking temperature and time in the oven please. Many thanks in advance.
Answered by Lindsey: Hello, I think the 3 egg cake mixture will fit in the Deliaonline loaf tin (or the 1lb Silverwood loaf tin) or a traditional 2lb loaf tin. I haven’t tested this, but I expect that it will need 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes in the oven. If you’re using conventional heat place it on a lower shelf so that the top of the tin is aligned with the centre or the oven. Usual rule of reducing the temperature by 20 degrees if you only have a fan option. Kind regards Lindsey
You will also need two Delia Online 20cm by 4cm round sponge tins, greased and bases lined.
The Delia Online bakware range is now available online and you can buy our Delia Online Sponge Tins and washable and reusable liners direct from Silverwood.
Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 3, 325°F (170°C).
