Can't live without this one.
Straining liquid from a pan with the lid slightly off is not a good idea - either too much water is left behind or some of your, say, spaghetti escapes along with it. A colander guarantees no hassle and if you want to squeeze the juice out of spinach, chop cooked cabbage, soak and drain aubergines or strain anything at all, it will do the job perfectly.
